Album Review: The King is Dead by The Decemberists

The King Is DeadThis album turns a bit more country than their last efforts and shows some very heavy influences from REM, in fact Peter Buck plays on a few tracks on this album.  But you will know this is The Decemberists because their sound is still dominated by front man and primary songwriter Colin Meloy.

The pace at times is a bit slow, and to be honest the band at times seems a bit lost as they are trying to find their way with this sound, but I still think it's an interesting album and worth a listen.

This would be a good album to throw on while walking to work on a cold winter morning, or while taking a drive out in the country.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.

  1. This video happily reminds me of my brother's Moody Blues records from when I was a kid.
