ReplyDeleteThe pairings is purely based on their rankings at the end of the season. It just so happened that all the WAC teams ended up in the same Group and that Group A was overloaded with SEC teams.
ReplyDeleteif i were the mcaa, i'd advance each of the conference champions and then fill out the bracket with wild cards to get to a four-denominator field.
ReplyDeleteI think the MCAA should adopt some type of procedure similar to what the NCAA uses in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. The NCAA uses the RPI for much of its seeding, but it will usually adjust the seeding if necessary to ensure that teams from the same conference don't meet until the Elite 8.
