A good start

Kevin Durant and company had a pretty easy time of it today against Croatia in their first game in the FIBA World Championships. The USA led by only 22-20 after the first quarter, but then blew open the game with a 26-6 second quarter, and the Americans cruised to a 106-78 victory. Eric Gordon led the way with 16 points, on 4 of 6 shooting from 3-point range. Tomorrow the Americans should have a tougher time against Slovenia.

Here are today's scores. By far the biggest surprise (to me) is that France beat Spain, the defending world champion. Spain is playing without Pau Gasol, but I would have still picked them to beat France.

GROUP A:
Australia 76 - 75 Jordan
Angola 44 - 94 Serbia
Germany 74 - 78 Argentina

GROUP B:
Tunisia 56 - 80 Slovenia
USA 106 - 78 Croatia
Iran 65 - 81 Brazil

GROUP C:
Greece 89 - 81 China
Russia 75 - 66 Puerto Rico
Ivory Coast 47 - 86 Turkey

GROUP D:
New Zealand 79 - 92 Lithuania
Canada 71 - 81 Lebanon
France 72 - 66 Spain
