Golf Update

Here is a list of men who have won exactly three major golf titles since the beginning of the 20th century:

Tommy Armour (SCO) (1927-31)
Denny Schute (1933-37)
Ralph Guldahl (1937-39)
Henry Cotton (ENG) (1934-48)
Jimmy Demaret (1940-50)
Cary Middlecoff (1949-56)
Julius Boros (1952-68)
Billy Casper (1959-70)
Larry Nelson (1981-87)
Hale Irwin (1974-90)
Nick Price (ZIM) (1992-94)
Payne Stewart (1989-99)
Vijay Singh (FIJ) (1998-2004)
Padraig Harrington (IRL) (2007-08)
Jordan Spieth (2015-17)
Scottie Scheffler (2022-25)

Vijay Singh's win at the 2004 PGA Championship was the last time that a major golf tournament was won by someone older than I am.

Scheffler has now won 15 events on the PGA Tour, including two Players' Championships, two Masters, and one PGA Championship.  His first victory on the PGA Tour took place on February 13, 2022.  He will be 29 years old on June 21.

    1. I wouldn't've thought to think about this in this way, but you intrigued me with the notion, and so I looked to see who are the fours, and the ones I'd heard of are Ernie Els and Raymond Floyd.

And speaking of 1978, I knew they were separate people even then, but I was pretty much always conflated Raymond Floyd and Ray Price. I still have to think twice, in fact, when I hear "For the Good Times" and catch myself before announcing to no one, "That Raymond Floyd can really sing."

  3. In the Heath Post era, only McIlroy, Koepka, Spieth, and Scheffler have won at least three majors.
