Oh, Kentucky

First Lt. Van Handorf comes home ... happily to Hebron.

So did 130 other soliders, from Afghanistan to Fort Campbell.

And here again is a rerun of John Fetterman's Pulitzer-winning story of sweet "Little Duck" from the July 28, 1968, Courier-Journal & Times Sunday Magazine."

A fantastic slideshow of last night's fireworks in Hazard, from the local Herald's Cris Ritchie.

James Madison and the Defense of Marriage Act. Madisonville and a pastor's wife's attack on the Southern Baptists.

The oldest seminary affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is on the move, to somewhere else in Lexington.

I had no idea that Kyle Macy is the tennis coach at Lexington Christian Academy or that Tony Branch was a co-captain of U of L's 1980 championship team.

Here's Hoptown's new princip-Ah.

James Comer--current state agriculture commissioner, future governor (All Along™) and Hilltopper forever--recently rocked Cadiz to talk mosquitoes.

Madisonville's "Single Stream Recycling" program--in which residents can have all of their recyclables collected from a single, city-provided bin--started in October 2012. Rita Dukes reports at Surfky.com that 2,835 residences are participating in the program, resulting in revenues of about $73,000 for the city from selling the materials. In her very interesting story, Dukes quotes the city's sanitation superintendent as also saying that disposing of the material would've cost $17 a ton. It would be good to know, too, how much it has cost for the city to collect the recyclables since October.

Godspeed, Officer Hall of Bardstown.
