Madisonville's "Single Stream Recycling" program--in which residents can have all of their recyclables collected from a single, city-provided bin--started in October 2012. Rita Dukes reports at Surfky.com that 2,835 residences are participating in the program, resulting in revenues of about $73,000 for the city from selling the materials. In her very interesting story, Dukes quotes the city's sanitation superintendent as also saying that disposing of the material would've cost $17 a ton. It would be good to know, too, how much it has cost for the city to collect the recyclables since October.
