Unlike so many of the coach sidekicks on these shows, he doesn't appear to be intimidated or trying to win favor of the coach. They decide to share a table and enjoy the evening together. There's no indication of Holiday Inn being a hotel--it's positioned as a good venue for a night out on the town.
