MLB Playoffs: Day 1

After such an exciting buildup, the MLB playoffs got off to a dreadful start today. In the first game, the Devil Rays cruised past the Rangers with a remarkably easy 9-0 victory. The second game was supposed to feature a match-up of two big-time aces: the Yankees' C.C. Sabathia (19-8, 3.00 ERA) and the Tigers' Justin Verlander (24-5, 2.40 ERA). But the Yankees and the Tigers were only able to play one full inning before the game was called by rain -- meaning that neither Sabathia nor Verlander will be on the mound tomorrow night when the game (currently tied at 1) picks up in the top of the second.

Nothing happened in the National League series; the Senior Circuit starts on Saturday.

National League Divisional Series (Best of 5)
Philadelphia and St. Louis tied 0-0
Milwaukee and Arizona tied 0-0

American League Divisional Series (Best of 5)
New York and Detroit tied 0-0 (Score of Game 1 is 1-1 in the top of the 2d)
Tampa Bay leads Texas 1-0
